on the issues

  • As a former teacher, Aicha is dedicated to unlocking every child’s full potential through fully funded public education to reveal a world of opportunity. This belief, along with her first hand experience teaching in public schools is what fuels her to fight tooth and nail to:

    • Fully fund our public schools and repeal Texas’ voucher scheme

    • Increase salaries for teachers, counselors, bus drivers, school nurses, and support staff

    • Provide a cost-of-living adjustment and permanent 13th check to retired teachers

    • Stop MAGA’s attempts to rewrite science and erase history from textbooks

    • Ensure each school has enough nurses and counselors

    • Dismantle the school-to-prison pipeline

Aicha knows that strong public schools prepare students to succeed in college or vocational training, but there are many barriers still in the way before our students are prepared to compete in the global job market. Aicha supports policies that cut the costs of higher education, provide more aid to students, and allow universities to teach without political interference.

As a member of the Higher Education Committee, Aicha has passed legislation to help Texas students graduate on time with minimal debt. She has passed bills to reduce the number of credit hours lost by transfer students and to curb financial aid displacement. Aicha has stood up to the Trump Administration’s efforts to bully and attack our colleges and universities.

Aicha understands that college is not the only path for every child. She is a strong supporter of union apprenticeships, vocational training in high-earning fields, and believes in every worker's right to unionize and collectively bargain. Aicha has a lifetime 100% pro-labor voting record with the Texas AFL-CIO.

  • The Trump Administration’s economic policies and unlawful tariffs have caused the cost of everything to skyrocket. From eggs and milk to lumber and metal, our daily goods cost way too much while wages have stayed down. Under Trump, jobs are down and opportunities are dwindling. Aicha’s number one focus is fighting the Trump agenda and protecting the American Dream. Aicha supports policies that will cut costs at the grocery store, the gas pump, and the pharmacy.

Aicha believes in the power of small businesses to uplift entire communities and be economic drivers. She advocates for laws that support small business owners, woman- and minority-owned businesses (WMBEs), and historically underutilized businesses (HUBs) to have increased access to capital, regulatory consistency, and a fair and competitive taxing environment. Aicha is committed to bringing more jobs, opportunities, and investments to House District 109. In 2025, she rallied support from the Speaker of the House, the Lieutenant Governor, and Governor to award a Texas Enterprise Grant to John Paul Mitchell Systems which led to the relocation of their corporate headquarters from California to Wilmer in House District 109. This corporate relocation will bring hundreds of new high-paying jobs and over $12 million in local capital investments.

Aicha passed a bill that kept dozens of home-based childcare centers open in Dallas County. Affordable high-quality early childhood education and childcare enable working families to re-enter the workforce. Aicha is a staunch advocate and has worked to increase access to affordable childcare options, paid family leave, and earned paid sick leave.

A hallmark of the American Dream is home ownership, but today that seems out of reach for so many families. Aicha has voted for laws that increase housing availability, support affordable housing, fair housing, slashing property taxes, and supports positive community development. Aicha’s vision is for every person to grow up in a loving home, in a safe community with strong public schools, affordable fresh grocery options, robust infrastructure and public transit, access to healthcare and full of opportunities.

  • Aicha believes that healthcare is a human right and supports a federal Medicare for All plan. At the state level, Aicha has voted for Medicare and Medicaid expansion at every opportunity. She has fought to hold the big insurance companies accountable and expand coverage. Aicha continues advocating to cap the cost of prescriptions, open more hospitals in underserved areas, and provide preventative healthcare.

Aicha is a Planned Parenthood Legislative Champion with a lifetime 100% pro-choice voting record. She supports restoring the right to abortion care, including mifepristone which has been shown to be safer than aspirin.

Healthcare also includes mental health. Aicha has passed landmark legislation to increase the number of mental health professionals trained and practicing in Texas. A majority of Texas counties are mental health provider deserts, meaning there is not even one mental health counselor or therapist in that county. Aicha revived the Texas Mental Health Professional Loan Repayment Program to provide student loan relief to mental health professionals in high need areas, including psychologists, therapists, and school counselors. Aicha also directed the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to develop a pipeline for more professionals to be rapidly trained right here in Texas to fill our mental health workforce needs.

  • Aicha has worked diligently to protect senior citizens from scams, fraud, and abuse. She’s fought to lower taxes, costs, and prescription drug prices for senior citizens. Aicha co-sponsored legislation to increase the homestead exemption to $200,000 for senior citizens generating each household thousands in property tax savings.

As a member of the Human Services committee, Aicha has worked to improve our nursing homes, senior facilities, and increase access to preventative services. While Social Security and Medicare are federal programs, State Representative Aicha Davis has repeatedly voiced her support to our Congressional members and asked them to fight to protect these hard earned benefits as well as SNAP.

Aicha believes everyone should be able to retire with dignity and security. Aicha has a special place in her heart for senior citizens and wants our district to be among the best places for senior citizens to live, retire, and thrive. During her first session, Aicha secured a million dollar investment from the state to begin construction plans for the addition of a Senior Citizens Activity Center at the Alan E. Sims Recreation Center in Cedar Hill. Aicha has worked closely with groups like AARP to advance legislation that is in the best interest of seniors and the issues that matter most.

  • Aicha has sponsored legislation to reduce property taxes for homeowners and small businesses through various methods including compression, exemptions, and raising the homestead exemption. Aicha supports fairness and transparency in the appraisal process to ensure taxpayers aren’t paying more than their fair share. She would like the state to explore progressive taxing streams that will reduce the state’s over reliance on property taxes.

  • Aicha is a battle-tested fighter for our most vulnerable children. In the Texas House, she’s made her mark through foster care reform. Aicha is committed to delivering the best services to our children in foster care -- ensuring safe and nurturing homes, a strong education, comprehensive healthcare including mental health, and setting each child up to succeed as an adult.

Texas has a privatized foster care system which means the state contracts with private entities to oversee our foster care services. Sadly enough, there were children in Dallas County whose needs were ignored, whose health and safety were compromised, and it was simply unacceptable. Aicha learned that the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) lacked the enforcement mechanisms to address the situation and there were legal insufficiencies preventing them from acting quickly. Aicha teamed up with a conservative state senator to pass a historic package of three bills that give DFPS the tools they need to act quickly in the defense of children and to hold the contractors accountable.

With the implementation of these new laws, Aicha hopes to see improved health and wellbeing of foster children, increased family reunification rates, and strict accountability for private contractors.

  • Aicha supports reforming our outdated, ineffective, and costly criminal system into one that is preventative, rehabilitative, reduces recidivism, and stops profiteering from incarceration.

The number one driver of crime is poverty and our state fails to address the key roots of poverty. Our state should be investing way more in our public schools, not private prisons. Aicha believes that the current conditions of our prisons are inhumane and lead to people returning to prison instead of repaying their debt to society. She supports focusing on rehabilitation through providing education and skills training, mental health treatment, counseling, and humane living conditions -- perhaps if the individual had those services to begin with, they wouldn’t have turned to crime.

It is time to revisit our penal code and remove outdated language, end mandatory minimums, and protect the rights of pre-trial defendants, including the right to bail. Due process and pre-trial rights are under attack in Texas. In America, you are innocent until proven guilty -- that should be the case in Texas too.

Aicha supports proven measures to reduce recidivism such as second chance hiring, resources to support reentry, parole reform such as the Second Look Act, and comprehensive solutions.

  • Ever since the rise of Trump and his divisive ways there has been a spike in hate crimes; racist dialogue, remarks, and policies; the rolling back of diversity, equity, and inclusion and so much more. This has been the darkest time of the 21st century for the LGBT+, the Black community and communities of color, persons who have different abilities, veterans and so many others. From redlining to the proliferation of concrete batch plants in Black areas, systemic injustices run deep and across the issues. Aicha Davis is a battle-tested champion for equality in the Texas House of Representatives. She stands up and fights for justice, fairness, and equity for everyone.

  • Coretta Scott King told us that “freedom is never really won; you earn it and win it in every generation.” Now is our time to stand up for our freedoms and take a stand that we won’t go back in time, we won’t let Trump and MAGA roll back the progress our foremothers fought hard to earn. The Voting Rights Act is being gutted, voting rights are being suppressed more and more year after year, and gerrymandering has now been legalized. The First Amendment is being threatened by government censorship and intimidation of journalists. These are unprecedented and unusual times which will require each and everyone of us to be vigilant and participate in Democracy. It’s not enough to be present, we must also be persistent. When it comes to our democracy and civil rights, Aicha will never back down.
